MANIFESTO

Our services are needed.
But our rights are not respected.

More than 20 million migrant women call Europe home—and we are the backbone of its care, agriculture, and domestic sectors. Together, we support families, nourish communities, and sustain economies. Yet our work often goes unrecognized, our voices unheard and our rights denied or violated.

This injustice is not accidental. It is rooted in colonial histories, racial hierarchies, and neoliberal systems that strategically exploit women’s labour while stripping us of recognition, dignity, and equity.

We refuse to be defined by these systems.

Instead, we are weaving networks of mutual support that transcend borders, languages, and legal statuses. We are organising, learning, and building collective power.

We demand the conditions necessary for each of us to thrive.

We envision a Europe where migrant women—like all women—can:

  • earn fair pay
  • hold secure, legal contracts
  • have time off and access healthcare
  • balance work and caring for our families

This is The Art of Moving Forward: a movement of solidarity, dignity, and collective power. Join us.

STORY OF THE PROJECT

The project The Art of Moving Forward: Migrant Empowerment – Creative Tools for Community Building and Advocating Labour Rights is a collaboration of three organisations: La Bolina from Spain, Lesvos Solidarity from Greece, and the Association of Theatre Pedagogues from Warsaw, Poland. Our partnership was formed in 2023. We work in three countries with different migrant women groups in various legal settings, but under a common European Union legal framework on migration.

We are all grassroots organisations with extensive experience working with migrant and refugee communities, designing and implementing diversity-sensitive projects. The project is centred around migrant-led empowerment using participatory research methods and social arts advocacy for women's labour rights.

This website is the direct result of the project – a community-based advocacy resource.

The project is co-funded by the European Union.
