The purpose
Initiated in 2015 during the reception crisis in Greece, Safe Passage Bags Workshop revives the remains of plastic life jackets and dinghies littering the shores of Lesvos. The raw materials that hold the trials of people forcibly displaced and their dangerous journey to safety are now transformed into symbols of resilience, hope and solidarity.

Safe Passage Bags Workshop equips both refugees and locals with vocational training and skill development opportunities. Craftsmanship, design and production skills aside Safe Passage Bags Workshop participants gain space for creative expression and feed the seeds of inclusion and the restoration of dignity.

The workshop addresses social exclusion and environmental degradation. The project aims at promoting a circular economy, environmental sustainability, and social justice. The workshop demonstrates that holistic solutions can benefit both people and the planet.
